The Cisco Learning Network: Realizing Significant Productivity Gains Using Social Learning

When: Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 : 11:00AM - 12:00PM EST

Since its founding in 1984, Cisco has become the worldwide leader in networking, transforming how people connect, communicate, and collaborate. Recently, Cisco commissioned a study that revealed that, by the year 2012, nearly three million skilled networking professionals are estimated to be needed globally, and many jobs are currently unfilled due to the lack of available talent. Knowing they need to be proactive in order to ensure they have the talent they need to remain a leader in their industry, the learning organization at Cisco was charged with certifying two million network professionals in four years’ time – a daunting task, but one that Learning@Cisco took on aggressively.

The solution to facilitating the learning necessary to reach that two million certification goal was to centralize resources and communities of Cisco-certified individuals. Learning@Cisco designed a single, Jive-based platform known as the Cisco Learning Network, incorporating Web 2.0 social networking and collaboration tools and features such as:

  • Video sharing
  • Podcasts
  • Quick learning modules
  • Multilingual discussion forums
  • Wiki functionality for collaboration blogs
  • Universal searches
  • Mentoring connections
  • and much more

This platform represented a fundamental shift in the company’s education strategy. Instead of instructor-led training, the site was developed to build personalized, relevant, global and scalable learning by creating a meeting place for social learning and a community resource for reinforcing skills and competencies for achieving certification. In other words, it was meant to enable learning, not just provide training. During this webinar, you will learn the benefits that Cisco and Learning@Cisco have experienced since introducing the Cisco Learning Network, including the productivity gains throughout the world.
