Abstract: The integrated global economy accounts for 30% of world trade. This includes a whole range of services that change the meaning of time and space. Although it may not be possible to govern that economy, Kobrin looks at dire predictions through three lenses: cyclical, political, and technological. He concludes that while things may be rough right now, the deep-seated, systemic change in the mode of organization of economics, politics, and social relations means that there will not be a retreat to a pre-global world.
