Although e-learning as a practice has been around for several years, it is still fairly new as a distinct field. A search for “best practices” on the website of an e-learning service organization such as the E-Learning Guild (http://www.e-learningguild.com) produces multiple reports, articles and white papers on the best practices of individual e-learning components, such as web conferencing, reusable learning objects, and simulations, However, in this early stage of the e-learning industry development, there are few resources available regarding overall design standards or best practices.
