The demands and pressures on today’s supply chains are greater than ever. Ensuring a secure, efficient end-to-end supply chain has become mission-critical across many industries. At the same time there’s a huge gap in available talent, with the demand for professionals now exceeding the talent pool by 6 to 1. How will supply chain leaders rise to the occasion?
Steve Tracey recently addressed this challenge in an expert webinar, Achieving End-to-End Supply Chain Excellence. Tracey is the Executive Director of the Center for Supply Chain Research at Penn State’s Smeal College of Business (ranked #1 by Gartner in Supply Chain Education).
Tracey advised supply chain managers to focus on three major areas:
- Address the talent shortage – create a leadership development roadmap for your organization
- Be bullish on supply chain strategy – work toward supply chain integration to create a competitive advantage for your firm
- Develop and practice skills – champion improvements, build connections between functions, and pay attention to metrics
